Our Focus

Qi Education is ‘hands-on’ and ‘minds-on’ learning in an environment where each child is encouraged to be amazing at being themselves!

We provide classes from age 8 through Year 8 offering extension opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths made relevant by incorporating these subjects into historical, present and/or future societal perspectives.  STEAM education in context.

At Qi Ed we know that learning, innovating and having brain based fun is limitless. This is why we reserve the right to often divert into wide and wonderful topics……. under whatever discipline you want to place them! Learning is not placed within boundaries, children are encouraged and guided to explore, question and find out!

Qi stands for the energy in everything, the circulating life force.  Qi is unstoppable, it is our inspiration, it drives us and all our learning. It is palpable in our space, at Qi Education we let it free and see where it takes us!

OUR STUDENTS

BRIGHT STUDENTS

Many students who will benefit from attending Qi Education are achieving well at school and are looking to approach learning in a more individualised manner and give themselves new learning challenges that are not limited to a curriculum or aged norms.  Working among like-minded peers for a day will help these students make friends, be understood at their level, initiate and join in stimulating conversation and debate and will give them the confidence to pursue their passions and challenge themselves in new and exciting ways.

DOESN'T LIKE SCHOOL

Some students who will achieve great things as a result of attending Qi Education are not currently fitting well into the education system despite their obvious ability.  Friends, behaviour, boredom, poor engagement can all be issues.  It is not unusual for these types of students to love the freedom and stimulation of the Qi Education classroom and as a result their engagement with learning, their behaviour and their feeling of self-worth improve dramatically both at Qi and in other settings.

HOME SCHOOLED/NON SCHOOLED

Children educated outside of the school system love to attend Qi Education because they can learn in their own way and at their own pace but with peers and with a teacher who gets to know them as individuals and is not restricted to the National Curriculum or testing.  Qi offers a day of learning in a classroom setting where friends are made and a wide variety of topics are explored.  The learning is fun and it’s a day with peers who are also loving the chance to learn, explore, question and challenge.

TWICE EXCEPTIONAL

Some children’s abilities are hampered by specific learning challenges.  At Qi Education the teacher will focus on what each individual does well, on their interests and their learning style.  The focus is not on what they struggle to achieve but what they excel at. Education at Qi is about being successful at being yourself.  Dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, Asperger’s, are all no barrier to fitting in, learning and loving a day at Qi Education.

GIRLS AS WELL AS BOYS

It is a cause of great frustration to the Qi Education teacher that programs such as Qi Education traditionally attract less girls than boys.  Research show that many girls will try hard to ‘fit in’ with their peers in their normal school settings and don’t get noticed as individuals who are bored and under challenged and are just keeping their head down and conforming.  If you suspect your girl is coasting, colouring beautiful borders around mediocre work and lacking enthusiasm for school topics and content PLEASE try Qi Education for a day a week! Girls can achieve great things, girls love hands-on learning, girls question and explore engineering, technology and science challenges, girls are out-going and active learnings and girls love attending a day a Qi Education.  Qi Education is about being successful at being yourself….so at Qi we encourage each student to extend themselves and use their talents and interests in a style that works for them.

A TYPICAL DAY AT QI

 Children are encouraged to push their limits, explore, question, innovate and make choices at all stages of the day but, in order to help the classroom to function, they do so within a set Qi Education framework that splits the learning into three distinct sections.

Independent projects

Each child working on a challenge over several weeks that is set by the teacher but based on a child’s own choice of topic and methodology. Individuals are guided, encouraged and challenged but essentially, they are independent learners. Topics may include coding, science, maths, story writing, research, engineering, art or film making but there is no limitation.

Collaborative topic-based inquiry learning

Shared and teacher directed learning where the class works together to extend and challenge our thoughts, knowledge and opinion on a topic…..through group activities, videos, discussion, trips etc.  Children learn to think together, to deal with different opinions, to express themselves to others and to challenge current thinking on a topic.

Explorative, creative and imaginative hands-on learning

Children use their imagination while making, creating and experimenting.  The choices are based around our topic of learning but children are encouraged to think outside the box and generate unique and innovative ideas.  Our students create without the confines of fact getting in the way! Ideas are extended through thoughtful teacher questioning and challenge…children are prompted to move beyond what they already know and try out new thoughts and possibilities.

COLLABORATION

Qi allows children to be successful at being themselves!  At Qi Education there are no set standards or fixed curriculum to define and confine learning and child development. We follow a child’s passions and empower them to go beyond what they already know.  There is no ‘one size fits all’ in our classroom and children thrive.

We bring ‘true’ peers together for a day of learning where each child attending has high ability in one or more areas and where they can learn at their own pace, in their own way and focus on subjects that they love.

A trusting partnership is the best relationship we can establish between home, other educators and Qi Ed and this is achieved with great communication.  If you can, come and spend time in the classroom, send e-mails, ask questions and/or give the teacher a call.  Making connections, getting to really know the children and the other environments in which they circulate helps Qi Ed to create an environment where children can be themselves and be happy.

A STEAM based extension environment!

By putting bright and motivated students together and providing a framework that allows for choice, independent work, collaborative work, interesting topic exploration, discussion, debate, challenge and lots of opportunity to innovate, create and imagine the extension happens as a matter of course!
By following the interests and passions of each student and allowing them to work to their strengths an atmosphere of intense focus, fun and creativity becomes almost tangible.
By working in collaboration with families, students and teachers a strong and supportive bond of trust develops through which a child can flourish and develop as themselves. Each child is encouraged to explore their own interests and prepare for their own future through high quality education designed just for them.
